ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and China have reaffirmed their commitment to advancing the second phase of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), with renewed focus on agriculture, industrial cooperation and priority infrastructure projects.
The reaffirmation came during a meeting between Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and Chinese Ambassador Jiang Zaidong, where both sides emphasised strengthening their long-standing economic partnership and deepening bilateral cooperation.
Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif appreciated China’s continued economic support and reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to enhancing the “all-weather strategic cooperative partnership” between the two countries. He also highlighted Pakistan’s role in promoting regional stability and stressed the importance of close coordination on shared priorities.
Ambassador Jiang Zaidong commended Pakistan’s economic resilience and reform efforts, reaffirming China’s continued support, particularly in trade and investment cooperation. Both sides expressed satisfaction over ongoing engagements and agreed to further strengthen collaboration under CPEC Phase-II.
The next phase of CPEC is expected to move beyond infrastructure development, placing greater emphasis on economic diversification, industrial growth and agricultural modernisation, aimed at driving sustainable economic progress in Pakistan.
The two countries also looked forward to upcoming high-level exchanges as they prepare to mark 75 years of diplomatic relations, signalling continued momentum in bilateral ties and long-term strategic cooperation.
