Engro Corporation has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Chinese technology giant Baidu Inc. to explore opportunities for collaboration in advancing artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities and ecosystem development across the region.
The partnership aims to identify opportunities across AI infrastructure, research, talent development and industry-specific applications. Through the collaboration, the two organisations will explore leveraging Baidu’s full-stack AI capabilities to support the practical adoption of AI technologies across multiple sectors.
Speaking on the occasion, Hussain Dawood, Chairman of Engro, highlighted the growing importance of technology in shaping industrial competitiveness and economic growth. He noted that organisations investing in future-ready capabilities today will be better positioned to create value, adapt to changing market dynamics and compete globally.
Baidu, one of China’s leading AI companies, has evolved into an AI-first organisation with a strong focus on innovation, cloud infrastructure, intelligent applications and advanced AI research. The company continues to expand its AI ecosystem, serving hundreds of millions of users and enterprises worldwide.
Under the proposed collaboration, both parties will explore four key areas, including the establishment of industrial research centres, development of intelligent industry workshops, implementation of AI talent and innovation training programmes, and creation of operations and service centres to support AI integration across financial, industrial and operational processes.
The initiative will be advanced through PaddlePaddle, Baidu’s deep-learning framework, with a focus on fostering localised research, industry applications and workforce development. Training programmes may include AI certifications and educational initiatives designed to build future talent and strengthen regional innovation capabilities.
Industry observers view the partnership as a significant step toward accelerating AI adoption in Pakistan and the broader region. The collaboration is expected to contribute to digital transformation, industrial modernisation and the development of a stronger AI ecosystem capable of supporting long-term economic growth and technological advancement.
