Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDC) has announced the commencement of production from the Sahito-1 discovery well, marking another addition to the company’s hydrocarbon output and reinforcing its efforts to enhance domestic energy supplies.
According to a notice submitted to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX), the Sahito-1 well is located in the Sahito Exploration Licence area in Sindh Province. The well was drilled and tested successfully, confirming the presence of commercially viable hydrocarbon reserves.
OGDC stated that the well has been connected to the production network and is now contributing approximately 5 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) of natural gas. The company holds a 95% working interest in the licence, while Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) owns the remaining 5% stake.
The discovery is expected to support Pakistan’s indigenous energy production at a time when the country continues to face challenges related to energy imports and supply-demand imbalances. Increased domestic gas production can help reduce reliance on imported fuels and strengthen energy security.
As Pakistan’s largest exploration and production company, OGDC continues to pursue an active exploration strategy aimed at discovering new hydrocarbon reserves and optimising production from existing assets. The company operates across multiple oil and gas fields nationwide and remains a key contributor to the country’s energy sector.
Industry analysts view the start of production at Sahito-1 as a positive development for both OGDC and Pakistan’s energy landscape, highlighting the importance of continued exploration activities in addressing the country’s growing energy requirements.
