Since commencing commercial operations in 2017, the 1,320-megawatt facility has served as a cornerstone for the national grid, significantly reducing energy shortfalls. PCJCCI President Nazir Hussain highlighted that this uninterrupted power has not only improved industrial productivity but has also strengthened investor confidence, ensuring that critical economic sectors remain operational and competitive.
Beyond electricity generation, the project has stimulated substantial economic activity through tax revenue, local procurement, and the creation of thousands of direct and indirect employment opportunities. The plant’s dedicated technical training facilities have been instrumental in equipping Pakistani engineers and technicians with modern operational skills, setting a benchmark for human resource development in future infrastructure projects.
The facility is also a model of technical innovation, utilizing advanced supercritical coal-fired technology to improve fuel efficiency and reduce consumption. By integrating sophisticated environmental protection systems—such as Electrostatic Precipitators (ESP), Flue Gas Desulfurization (FGD), and Continuous Emissions Monitoring Systems (CEMS)—the project demonstrates that high-level industrial development can successfully align with internationally recognized environmental standards.
Looking ahead, the PCJCCI emphasizes that Pakistan must continue to attract Chinese investment in next-generation energy infrastructure to support its expanding economy. The chamber advocates for a diversified energy mix that includes clean coal, hydropower, renewables, and smart transmission networks, all of which are essential to sustaining industrial growth, urban development, and the future success of Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
