Pakistan’s Pine Nut Exports to China See Tremendous Growth, Hit USD 18.78 Million in 2024

Beijing: Pakistan’s pine nut exports to China witnessed a remarkable surge in 2024, reaching US$ 18.78 million, according to official data from the General Administration of Customs of the People’s Republic of China (GACC). This marks a significant increase from $8.22 million in 2023, reinforcing China’s position as one of the largest markets for Pakistani pine nuts.

Record-Breaking Growth in Pine Nut Exports

From January to December 2024, China imported 981.64 tons of Pakistani pine nuts, accounting for 35% of the total $53.71 million worth of pine nuts imported by China last year. The soaring demand highlights Pakistan’s expanding footprint in the Chinese market.

Yar Muhammad Niaz, Chief Executive of a food company in Hangzhou, attributes this growth to the exceptional taste and quality of Pakistani pine nuts. “Pakistani pine nuts are known for their rich flavor and smooth texture, making them a beloved choice for Chinese consumers,” he said in an interview with China Economic Net.

E-Commerce & Festivals Boost Demand

Niaz credited the rise in sales to extensive promotion on major Chinese e-commerce platforms in 2023. He noted that Pakistani pine nuts have become a staple during Chinese New Year and other traditional festivals such as the Lantern Festival.

“Their presence in festive celebrations underscores their status as a symbol of health, prosperity, and longevity in Chinese culture,” he remarked. The premium packaging of Pakistani pine nuts enhances their appeal as a luxury gift, further boosting their demand.

Opportunities for Pakistani Exporters

The rising demand for Pakistani pine nuts presents a lucrative opportunity for exporters looking to expand their presence in China. With growing consumer preference for high-quality nuts, Pakistani businesses can leverage digital platforms and premium branding to further strengthen their foothold in this high-value market.

As Pakistan continues to enhance trade partnerships with China, the business community is encouraged to explore new export avenues, ensuring long-term growth in the agro-food sector.
