Sindh Government Considers Major 50% Reduction in E-Challan Fines for Karachi Citizens

In a significant move aimed at providing substantial relief to the public, the Government of Sindh is actively considering a proposal to reduce e-challan fines for traffic violations in Karachi by 50%. The proposed relief, which is likely to be implemented before the upcoming month of Ramadan, was discussed in a recent high-level committee meeting and is slated for a final decision next week.

Under the proposed revisions, fines for motorcycles are expected to be reduced from the current PKR 5,000 to PKR 2,500. Similarly, fines for cars with engine capacities of up to 1000cc are also being considered for a 50% reduction. The final approval will be granted in a special committee meeting chaired by the Sindh Home Minister scheduled for next week, after which an official notification will be issued.

This initiative follows specific recommendations on e-challan reforms that were requested during a prior committee meeting held on December 23, 2025. The potential reduction is viewed as a responsive measure to public sentiment and an effort to align penalty structures with broader considerations of citizen welfare, especially ahead of the festive and holy period.

“A final decision on this important public relief measure will be made in the coming days,” stated a representative familiar with the deliberations. “The government is keenly aware of the financial burden on citizens and is working on a balanced approach that maintains the importance of traffic discipline while providing meaningful economic relief to the people of Karachi.”

The anticipated move has been welcomed by citizen groups and is expected to ease the compliance burden for a large number of vehicle owners in the metropolitan city.
