FIA to Launch AI-Powered Immigration App and E-Gates, Aiming to Clear Passengers in 10 Seconds

In a major leap toward modernizing national border security and passenger convenience, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has approved the launch of a new Artificial Intelligence (AI)-based mobile application and electronic immigration gates for major Pakistani airports. The integrated system is designed to reduce passenger clearance times to as little as 10 seconds, significantly easing congestion and streamlining the travel experience at busy terminals.

The new “AI Mobile App for Immigration” will allow travelers to submit their personal details, passport information, and flight data before arriving at the airport. The system will pre-verify this information against official government databases. Upon arrival, eligible passengers can then use newly installed electronic immigration (e-gates) to scan their passports and clear immigration within seconds, minimizing or eliminating the need for direct interaction with an immigration officer.

Beyond efficiency, the system introduces a powerful security upgrade. The AI application will utilize machine learning algorithms to analyze travel patterns and build passenger profiles, enabling authorities to proactively identify suspicious activities. This capability is expected to significantly bolster Pakistan’s efforts in combating illegal immigration and human trafficking.

The modernization project is part of a government-approved plan to deploy artificial intelligence in border management. A pilot phase is scheduled to begin at Islamabad International Airport, with subsequent expansion to other major airports across the country. The system will be fully integrated with the existing Integrated Border Management System (IBMS) and will cover both arrival and departure processes.

“Launching this AI-driven system marks a transformative step for Pakistan’s border security and passenger facilitation,” stated a senior FIA official. “We are moving from a manual, queue-based process to a seamless, technology-first approach that enhances both security and the traveler’s experience, positioning our airports at par with global standards.”
