In a landmark move to modernize governance and build a future-ready civil service, the Government of Pakistan has formally integrated Artificial Intelligence (AI) training into the core curriculum of the Civil Services Academy. The initiative, inaugurated by the Federal Minister for Information Technology, marks a strategic step in equipping the nation’s administrative leadership with the skills needed to harness emerging technologies for public service.

The inaugural “Artificial Intelligence 101” module was delivered to a special batch of 108 probationary officers from Balochistan and Sindh. A total of 150 officers successfully completed the intensive two-day course, which covered AI fundamentals, prompt engineering, administrative applications, productivity tools, and the critical ethical considerations of deploying AI in governance. To ensure sustainability, a parallel Training-of-Trainers program certified 30 faculty members as master trainers, embedding the expertise within the Academy.

This program is a direct implementation of the national Digital Nation Vision and the Digital Nation Pakistan Act, providing a concrete framework for governance reform through technology. The AI module was developed through a collaborative effort by the Ministry of IT and Telecom, the Planning Commission, the Civil Services Academy, and the technology education partner atomcamp.

“Integrating AI training is not an optional upgrade; it is a necessary foundation for effective and responsive governance in the 21st century,” stated the Federal Minister for IT. “By equipping our civil servants with these skills, we are empowering them to streamline services, enhance decision-making, and solve public policy challenges with greater efficiency and innovation. This training is now a permanent and mandatory component for all future civil service batches.”

The government has announced plans to expand this partnership to develop advanced AI modules, ensuring that Pakistan’s civil service remains at the forefront of technological adoption for national development.
