Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages Achieves Global Water Stewardship Milestone, First in Food & Beverage Industry

Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages (NW&PB), the global business behind the Nestlé PURE LIFE brand in Pakistan, has become the first food and beverage company worldwide to achieve 100 percent certification of all its 39 bottling sites to the Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard. This landmark accomplishment includes the local bottling sites in Pakistan at Sheikhupura, Islamabad, and Karachi, as well as Nestlé’s Kabirwala factory.

The achievement represents a significant milestone in corporate water stewardship, demonstrating Nestlé’s commitment to sustainable water management across its global operations. As increasing water stress and extreme weather events place growing pressure on rivers, aquifers, and communities, effective water stewardship requires action that goes beyond factory boundaries and addresses shared water challenges at the catchment level.

Commitment to Collective Action

Emphasizing the importance of collective action, Sheikh Waqar Ahmad, Head of Corporate Affairs and Sustainability at Nestlé Pakistan, stated: “Water is a shared resource, and shared challenges demand collective solutions. This is why we launched the Caring for Water Pakistan (C4W Pakistan) initiative in 2017. Through this platform, we collaborate with key partners including Pakistan Agricultural Research Council, Lahore University of Management Sciences (LUMS), and WWF Pakistan to strengthen long-term water resilience for communities, nature, and business continuity.”

Caring for Water Pakistan Initiative

Under the Caring for Water-Pakistan initiative, Nestlé has implemented several impactful water stewardship projects across the country:

InitiativeScale
Drip Irrigation244 acres in Sindh
Drip Irrigation55 acres in Punjab
Smart Soil Moisture Sensors722 acres deployed in 2025

These projects demonstrate Nestlé’s commitment to promoting water-efficient agricultural practices and supporting farming communities in Pakistan.

About the Alliance for Water Stewardship Standard

The Alliance for Water Stewardship (AWS) Standard is a globally recognized framework for responsible water management. AWS certification requires sites to demonstrate responsible water governance, sustainable water balance, good water quality, and healthy water-related ecosystems. Achieving 100% certification across all 39 bottling sites places Nestlé Waters & Premium Beverages at the forefront of corporate water stewardship.
