COMSTECH, WUACD and Universitas Airlangga Agree to Expand Academic,S&T and Community Development Cooperation

Prof. Dr. M. Iqbal Choudhary, Coordinator General of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation’s Standing Committee on Scientific and Technological Cooperation (OIC-COMSTECH), held a detailed meeting with Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan, S.E., M.Si., M.Fin., Rector of Universitas Airlangga (UNAIR), Indonesia, and Chairman of the World University Association for Community Development (WUACD), to strengthen institutional collaboration in higher education, research, and community development.

The meeting focused on expanding cooperation between COMSTECH, WUACD, and Universitas Airlangga through mutually agreed academic and development-oriented programmes.

Both sides discussed faculty and student mobility, joint research initiatives, capacity-building programmes, and sustainability-driven community development projects planned for 2026.

During the discussion, special emphasis was placed on the exchange of young students and researchers for six-month placements. Under the agreed framework, COMSTECH will support international travel and visa arrangements, while the Indonesian side will provide full hospitality. The programme aims to promote academic exposure, cultural exchange, and deeper integration of international students into the host university’s academic and research environment.

The two sides also reviewed ongoing and proposed COMSTECH-supported initiatives in key areas including health sciences, social sciences, innovative education, environmental sustainability, and community engagement. The importance of aligning academic collaboration with community needs and sustainable development goals was highlighted.

Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Iqbal Choudhary underscored COMSTECH’s commitment to strengthening cooperation among universities and research institutions across OIC member states and partner countries through meaningful, impact-driven programmes.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Madyan reaffirmed Universitas Airlangga’s strong support for collaborative initiatives under COMSTECH and WUACD, emphasizing the role of universities in advancing community development, knowledge sharing, and international academic partnerships.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to further deepen cooperation through structured programmes, regular academic exchanges, and joint initiatives aimed at human capital development and sustainable community impact.
