The federal government has approved a salary revision for Tenure Track System (TTS) faculty in public universities, but the notification has sparked outrage among academics who say the promised 35% increase has not materialized . Instead of a uniform raise, professors received a maximum 4% increase after five years without revision, while assistant professors saw increases of up to 55% . The notification, issued by the Ministry of Finance on Friday, appears to violate the federal government’s September 2021 decision approving a 35% salary increase for the specialised faculty category.

The TTS faculty association has formally rejected the proposed increase, citing glaring anomalies where senior professors received negligible raises while junior faculty saw substantial gains . The association has declared the office memorandum “legally and administratively flawed,” stating it is inconsistent with the Prime Minister’s Task Force recommendations, judicial directions, and constitutional principles of fairness . According to the notification, the minimum salary of a professor increased from Rs394,875 to Rs407,230 – a mere Rs12,355 monthly raise after five years, while the maximum salary rose by just 4% .
