UBL National Innovation Hackathon 2026 Kicks Off

KARACHI: United Bank Limited (UBL), in collaboration with NIC Karachi, an Ignite-funded initiative under the Ministry of IT & Telecom, has launched the UBL National Innovation Hackathon 2026, bringing together Pakistan’s brightest innovators to develop cutting-edge solutions for the country’s financial services sector. The 72-hour competition aims to accelerate fintech innovation and support the next generation of entrepreneurs through mentorship, incubation and industry collaboration.

The hackathon has attracted 25 shortlisted teams selected from more than 1,200 applications submitted by students, startups, software developers, researchers and technology professionals from across Pakistan. Participants are competing for a grand prize of Rs5 million while working on innovative solutions for banking, digital payments and financial inclusion.

Beyond the competition, UBL and NIC Karachi will provide high-potential teams with continued mentorship, incubation and access to industry experts to help transform promising ideas into commercially viable products. The initiative also forms part of UBL’s broader digital transformation strategy, encouraging the development of customer-centric solutions powered by emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, machine learning and data analytics.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, UBL representatives highlighted the importance of innovation in reshaping Pakistan’s financial ecosystem, while NIC Karachi officials emphasised the role of industry-academia collaboration in nurturing entrepreneurial talent. They noted that the hackathon is designed not only as a competition but also as a platform to identify future innovators capable of addressing real-world challenges in financial services.
