Yango Ride, part of global technology company Yango Group, has become the first ride-hailing platform in Pakistan to obtain a Transport Network Company (TNC) operating licence from the Punjab Provincial Transport Authority, marking a key milestone for the country’s digital mobility sector.
The licence allows Yango to operate under the Provincial Motor Vehicle (Amendment) Act, 2025, which formally regulates ride-hailing services in Punjab. The approval follows extensive coordination between the company and provincial authorities as part of efforts to establish a structured regulatory framework for app-based transport services.
The new licensing regime aims to strengthen oversight while introducing enhanced safety, verification and compliance standards for both drivers and passengers. This is expected to improve transparency and accountability across Pakistan’s rapidly expanding ride-hailing industry.
Company officials described the development as a significant step towards building a safer, more reliable and efficient mobility ecosystem. The licence also highlights Yango’s commitment to operating within regulatory guidelines while contributing to the evolution of urban transport services in Pakistan.
Industry experts view the move as a positive development for the broader technology and transport sectors, especially as demand for digital mobility solutions continues to rise in major cities. A formal regulatory structure is expected to reduce uncertainty and encourage further innovation and investment.
In addition, Yango is working with local authorities to integrate emergency support features and safety mechanisms into its platform, enhancing user protection and service reliability.
The issuance of the TNC licence is likely to encourage other ride-hailing operators to follow suit, paving the way for a more organised, competitive and regulated mobility landscape in Pakistan.
